...but you haven't actually played it yet. A lot of what I said was limited so that I didn't give much away and most of the game would still be a surprise for you. Don't judge it until you've played it, because I made that mistake too.
Until that cutscene was revealed and it got close to the release, I honestly thought I wouldn't like it that much. It seemed very childish and I wasn't fond of the theme song, and the Wisps still seemed weird to me. Now I can honestly say I like it as a close second to Sonic Unleashed 360 and Professor Layton and the Unwound/Lost Future, which are my absolute most favourite games ever. I adore the Wisps, the game is literally the most hilarious one I've ever played, and I love the new voice actors. The ending wasn't what I expected, but the rest of the game makes up for it. And there are serious elements to it.
I honestly don't believe Sonic is suited to entirely serious stories. Almost every Sonic game revolves around a serious situation going on and saving people from evil, but there has always been an element that makes it seem lighter (...except Sonic 06, but that is considered by many people to be the worst Sonic game of all time). Even in Sonic X, true the entire galaxy was at risk, but the people saving the galaxy were children, many of their adventures involved jokes, and the entire show was... one of the furthest things you can get an adult, blood-filled, mature-rated anime. Sonic as a character is a lighthearted guy who is only 15 and saves the world.
...anyway I'm turning this into an off-topic debate. I stand by the idea that you shouldn't judge it based off of what I've said, because I withheld a lot of details so that you could still enjoy it when you do get round to playing it.

Sonic as a character is a lighthearted guy who is only 15 and saves the world. OK, I'll rent it first and see if I like it. Also I do think Sonic isn't that lighthearted, and that is when it is good. It is not like they are trying to save all the candy or fun in the world or something, or learning to share most of the time. It actually is serious, and a few characters are adults in it too (such as Chris's family, the GUN commander, and even Shadow must be at least 50 years old). And I do think Sonic X was pretty close to a hardcore show, which is also why I compare it a lot to games like Halo, Half-Life, Mass Effect, and other similar games with a similar storyline and stuff. Besides, some of the games I like such as Portal and Gears of War are really serious and stuff, but they still have humor in them. It when it has too much when I don't like it, which is also why I dislike most of the Mario games, too much humorous stuff and not hardcore things. It's just that they don't overdo it, like this. From Portal: Wheatley Robot: Okay plug me into that wall over there and I'll open an escape route. Wheatley Robot: (after a few seconds), (embarrased) Hey I can't do it while you're looking! Wheatley Robot: Okay, what was the password again? AAAAAA? No, that's not it. AAAAAC? Wait, did I do B? Have you got a pen? Start writing these down! From Gears of War: B. Carmine: Don't worry, I pledge to do anything I can to help the COGS win! Marcus: Yeah Yeah, I've heard it before. Just take out those Locust freaks and don't get religious on us. B. Carmine: Religious? Marcus: Hole-Y. B. Carmine: Oh, full of holes, I get it. From Mass Effect: C-Sec Officer: That Hanar refuses to listen to reason. Why can't it act in an orderly and lawful manner? (Hanars are these floating jellyfish like aliens) Shepherd: Cause it's a Big Stupid Jellyfish! Drugged Volus Biotic: Fear me! I am a Biotic God! I am a great wind who will sweep all before me away like.... um.... A great wind! Shepherd: (noticing he's drugged) (sarcastically) uh-huh. See, even those serious games have some funny parts, but they aren't like Mario or AoSTH corny with it, which is also why I liked when Megaman went to the Megaman X series, more serious atmostphere and stuff. OK back on topic, I heard there are more characters in the DS version. Who is in the DS version that doesn't appear in the Wii version.

I would honestly say Sonic X is nowhere near "hardcore" but that may just be me lol. And in response to the characters thing, I found a walkthrough of the DS version (its by the user soniczeki) and pretty much just looked through the cutscenes. The characters in the DS version are: Cream & Cheese (and a random Chao who Eggman's robots mistake for a Wisp), Blaze ( ?), Silver ( ), Rouge, Knuckles, Big ( ), Amy, Omega, Shadow, Super Sonic (WHY IS HE NOT IN THE WII VERSION WHYYYY) and the "Mother Wisp" (SHE IS FREAKING CREEPY) ...in other words, almost everyone.

In response to Galaxina... [glow=red,2,300]I H-A-T-E-D everything about Sonic 06. Never mention that game to my face. THe gameplay was raw and rugged. (/hate) The speed was blurry for Sonic. (/hate). There was a loading thing for a second of cutscene. (/hate). Timewarp fail is fail. (/hate). The end of the game actually never existed. (/hate).[/glow] THAT PARTICULAR CONVERSATION IS OVER. DO NOT REMENTION EVERYTHING HIGHLIGHTED IN RED EVER AGAIN. Sonic Adventure 2 was good. It was pretty deep, yet still playable, though choppy in occasional areas. To me, this is the ideal Sonic game, though many would disagree. Sonic Heroes was a little too bubbly, and Sonic Unleashed was waaaay too bubbly. Though, this opened a new category for Sonic games. There are more deep Sonic stories, and light Sonic stories. I'm not saying Unleashed was bad, just that it didn't meet my criteria for a "good Sonic Game." So I split my categories up, and once it met my new criteria of a game designed for a littler kid, suddenly the game was very playable. (Though I disliked the existence of Chip.) Sonic Colors strikes me as the surpasser of Unleashed. Nothing can eclipse the epicness of Adventure, and if something ever does I MUST HAVE IT. But, because Colours is meant more for kids, I feel that, since I will be expecting corny dialogue, and embarassing encounters with my parents in playing it, the game will be fine, enjoyable, and pleasant. I heard about having Chaos Emeralds in the DS Version besides. I am sooooo curious now, are they two totally different games? ~Joe

(/hate).[/glow] I can see why we are having a bit of trouble getting along. I thought that Sonic game was one of the most amazing, aside from Shdow the Hedgehog, Sonic Adventure, and Sonic X. For these reasons. -Amazing graphics(/like) -The Humans looked the most realistic. In Fact Eggman looked more cooler and diabolical there (why did he have to revert back to his dumb old looks?)(/like) -Serious Storyline(/like) -Lots of violence and huge conflicts(/like) -Best of all, the main villain was SOLARIS, who has to be one of the most powerful antagonists in Sonic EVER!!!! Very few have been that good. Solaris is epic for he is a vengeful, multidimensional, time god who can devour the very fabric of time, could actually cause harm to even Super Sonic, and took 3 Super Forms to beat him, and even that wasn't enough, since he is an immortal god, they only suppressed him.(/like) Very Few foes in Sonic are that good. The only two others are Dark Oak (I think is better), who is an omnipotent alien emperor who extinguished many entire civilizations across the galaxy, could actually harm Super Sonic (as in Episode 53 proved), and took three Super forms to beat (Super Sonic, Super Shadow, and Super Cosmo), And Dark Gaia, who is a beast at the center of the Earth who's premature awakening was enough to cause the continents to split, also could hurt Super Sonic (really hard to do), and took the power of Super Sonic and the enigmatic Gaia Colossus to beat.(/like) I don't like how you diss the ones that I thought were some of the best! If there is any Sonic Game that will ever capture my attention greatly, it might look something like this below. SEGA has come really close a few times with this, I've seen it in Fanworks a lot (which some are good), and SEGA has used this kind of stuff in some of there other games too, like Madworld, Space Siege, and Vanquish. But Back On Topic now,I saw that in this game, Eggman is trying to use the Wisps to corrupt them into Dark Wisps and mind control the world with them. This doesn't seem that serious of a plan, but it still is good. Come to think of it, Eggman has done something similar before, mainly in the old games. He would capture small animals and use them as an organic battery for some of his robots to later use in his plans, and in fact, he still does at times.

I would like to point out the fact that all of the damage Solaris caused and his entire existence was destroyed by blowing out a little candle (whilst a selfish princess begs her animal lover to forget about all of the people in time and space just for her when his job is saving people LOL). Pathetic in the end, really. Although credit where it's due, before becoming Solaris, Mephiles did manage to actually kill Sonic (even if his death, the reactions to his death and the way he came back are all the most failtastic things I have EVER seen) which no one else ever succeeded in doing.
Because his character is not meant to succeed. He's the evil guy with serious plans but he always fails stupidly. Also I found his Next Gen look friggin creepy lol.
...and I would also like to point out that a large portion of the fanbase despises Sonic 06. LARGE portion. I've seen it get nicknames like "Sonic the Disaster" and stuff.
Anyway YES BACK ON TOPIC
You really should include a spoiler warning there y'know o:
SPOILER WARNIN' YO I would say taking control of the minds of an entire planet and therefore turning them into mindless slaves to do whatever he wanted and dominate the world/galaxy/whatever etc. and kidnapping several other (smaller) planets = serious plan, but that may just be me...

You know Huski, I don't really believe Solaris is done yet. I mean a Godly being like him cannot die, he might return later on in a different form or something, like with Dark Falz in Phantasy Star. I also believe the Black Arms and Metarex may return too, for Black Doom said at the end of the game "This isn't over, the Black Arms will rise again," and the Metarex still had all their hundreds of tank-born cybernetically-enhanced soldiers and fighters on their side, who might want to try nd revive their kings.
Also... That isn't such a serious plan to me, seems more like something you'd see in Power Rangers or Spiderman, which I dislike both. I think a much more serious plan would be something like, say ravaging half the earth with nuclear warheads and beginning your reign of terror in a post-apocalyptic nuclear winter, or say going about with a huge, near unstoppable alien army and awakening every millenium to "impose order on evolution of other species" by driving them to extinction and leaving their homeworlds uninhabitable, then taking what they had for your own kind's expansion and making sure that other aliens develop along the paths you kind desires so that it works better. Or at least something along the lines of constant widespread warfare, or deterrence, or mass destruction that actually leaves there little hope or faith in the long run, and not just is good at the end result. That would be perhaps my idea of a really serious plan.

Ima gunna quote mahself.
Wow, fail's a fail.
Du diesta makuna' qaebolich ide kieno bano!
Personally I think that plot for Sonic Colors is pretty good. I mean, it seems a little more dark than SA2B, (possessing a large gun and pointing it at the world ordering them around. I mean, think about this realistically. If he WERE to pull the trigger, what would be left to rule?) This seems a bit darker, controlling the minds of innocent creatures to force the world into submission mentally. Then he might actually get an audience at his Eggmanland.
But, in all chances, it probably was watered down a bit by cheesieness.
Recently though, given my choice of movies, perhaps that is what is best for me? I have been watching old Disney movies and the wondrous works of Studio Ghibli of late... Wonderful pieces of art those artists...
Given the childhood audience those companies seek, perhaps a game like Colors is more suited for me, this time around?

Oh, and I forgot to mention, I did finally play Sonic Colors, but I don't think I'll buy it. It isn't to my likings, and I feel SEGA has regressed, not progressed. I didn't like it, and I'll leave it there. And yes I did think Eggman was pretty darn serious in SAB2. There he used a type of deterrence, which is actually quite good. I mean he of course, would want to use the cannon at full power, but others would subject to his rule if they knew he had control of something that powerful, like in real world times that people do with Nukes they have in storage. The one in this though, wasn't that good. The Metarex, Black Arms, Solaris, and Echidna Legion did much better than he did too, in all ways. By the way, please check out this webcomic at the link below. Read it and see what the Mad genius known as The Inquisitor's main goal and methods to achieve it is. This would be one of my definitions of a serious plan Link to the Comic --> www.diseasedboard.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=memcomics&action=display&thread=2011

BOUGHT. BEAT. WORKING TOWARDS 100% COMPLETION.
Sonic Colors is pretty fun for DS. The dialogues are sappy, but the gameplay is my kinda Sonic Game. 2D sidescroller that is hyper, fast paced, and with a particular level of difficulity if you want to get something OTHER than finishing the level.
Much Ado About Chaos Emeralds-
When I finished my first mission, I accessed the Special Stage, MUCH easier than in Sonic Rush 1, but still challenging. When you finish a stage with enough rings still on you (generally more than 50,) you are allowed to go into the special stages. It is hard getting there for the last two worlds.
What baffles me is that there are only 6 worlds not including a last mission "Terminal Velocity", and that is just a giant boss world. That would leave for only 6 Chaos Emeralds, when even your little storage container contains 7 slots...
Only realy problem with the game is the last boss. Way too easy to understand the mechanics of and quite a bit cheesy.
It really is a good game, it'll entertain (most) of you for a little while. (I've had it since Christmas, and have beaten it sense, but I am a hardcore gamer like that, lol.)

Yeah, I hate when games just repeat bosses. That was my main problem with Metroid Prime Hunters. I loved the wisp abilities. That's why I don't like Super Sonic because you can't use wisps when he's turned on.
