Well, more of a proposal, really. See, I have this idea, but... well, perhaps I should start from the beginning. As some of you may already know, I recently returned from a two-week-long, gamer-oriented summer camp. I took two courses: 3D modeling with Maya (top of the line software used by Pixar) and game design using the Unreal Engine (a platform that was used to create Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, Gears of War, and others). I've learned to used both programs with a certain amount of skill, as I can demonstrate: This is a "replica" Covenant CCS-class battlecruiser, made using images of same. The project took a total of four days to build, plus a little extra to fine-tune the glow effects. Once I get my hands on a copy of Maya (after somehow pulling together $250), it will be possible to make my own custom models and upload them into Unreal, which I received as part of the game design course. Of course, I immediately started trying to think up ideas for possible games. One in particular stuck in my head, one which has been discussed (or at least mentioned) many times before on this forum: a game adaptation of Sonic X, season 3. While such a thing is definitely possible (provided Sega allows it, as it has many other fan-made games), I quickly realized it would be nearly impossible to do on my own. All of which brings me to the reason I made this thread: to present this idea to you all. I propose that we, the members of this forum, combine our various skills and become the development team for this new game. It would require dedication and, if my limited experience is anything to judge by, a good bit of ingenuity, but I've no doubt that enough of us together would be able to pull it off. What I need to know, though, is who would be willing to join me in this endeavor. If you have any skills whatsoever - imaging, voice acting, plot construction, what have you - then by all means, let me know. That is all.

You know I'm a budding voice actor. I can help. XT seems like he would be good with plot construction. Everyone knows he is one of the best fanfic writer out there.
Also, I might have ideas for games...Darker then you'd expect from lil' ol' me.

I can do plot line and stuff, but that's about it... I'd need to know what kind of game we're doing, and I'd have to warn you, I'm only part time... I've got a lot to do right now, and I can be quite busy...

I don't expect anyone here to be more than part-time; I think we all have lives outside of our computers. Plot construction isn't that much of an issue, seeing as this project will be based on the anime. (Unless anyone thinks it might be impractical?) Of greater concern is how exactly to adapt the plot into a game: will we stick with the classic, fast-paced style of the Sonic games, or try another approach?
Just an FYI for those who aren't familiar with Unreal: it is an FPS-based engine. While it can be modified (see Assassin's Creed), it has a limited ability to build games of a vastly different style. For example, an RPG would most likely be too complex character-wise and could be made more easily in something like Realm Crafter.
While we wait for more people to show up (Help wanted: image crafting/editing), let's hear suggestions as to the style of gameplay.

I could work with plot construction as well. Always great to have a team and all.
Of course... I could also do the music. I have high quality computer music things... and I am a composer and all. Music is a powerful component of games.
Question: What is image editing/crafting?

Working with Photoshop, MSPaint, or whatever such software you're good at. We'll probably need to make custom textures for objects at some point, since only a limited number come with the engine and with Maya.
And I agree, music is important. Though that will probably come later, once the levels are designed, I still appreciate you letting us know now.

WAITASEC A TECH camp? ...You do realise I was at a tech camp before I went to Arizona, right?

iD Tech? Wouldn't happen to have been at Emory University, would it?

Yeah, it was ID tech! Different University though.

Does anybody here know how to get in touch with Sega? I figure we should have their permission, and I couldn't find any kind of contact information on their site.

Not a clue. I can search for ya. Though I think they wouldn't care. What with all the porn of their characters, with no controversy.

I see your point, though I slightly resent that particular comparison.
Okay, first question, and this one is pure logistics: do we keep the entire discussion to this thread, or split it up into others based on what, specifically, is being discussed? Also, we need (a) a working title for the project and (b) a name for the development team. Suggestions?
EDIT: Quasar something for the second one, perhaps?

Eh, I knew you would. I have a way of doing that.
A Split Discussion would be the better way to go. Then this thread wouldn't be so messy. No idea for the project name. (This makes three projects I'm working on/helping.)

This sounds more exciting. We work with stuff like this in computer animation, which I'm taking next year. Don't expect me to be anywhere near that level though. We just make things move. Or die. Or fly.
Name? Heck, you're the leader, Twilitbeing the Unbound. You come up with something cool, and we'll all probably agree to it, regardless of what it is. Just keep the word SEGA out of it.
Although for the development team name, Limitless Enterprises sounds cool. Actually it sounds kind of dorky. Forget I said anything.

What abou Cromartie?

"Enterprises" is kind of inaccurate, but "Limitless Games..." that's not bad. We could also use some variation like Infinity or Unbound (although "Infinity Games" is a little too close to Infinity Ward).
There's the aforementioned "Quasar Games," which is accurate, considering that SX3 takes place throughout outer space.
Cromartie has a nice ring to it, but where does it come from?

It's a Japanese Basketball team.

That is definitly amusing to know. Although, watching teen Japanesse basketball play against Americans, despite the height difference, sometimes, with excellent teamwork, they are pretty formidable.
Other times, the height difference kills them.
Off topic moment that I coudln't resist. Sorry. Anyway... well, Quasar games does sound nice, but what if you were to make more games? I don't know the likeliehood, but if you did, would they all be space games?
Then again, it doesn't matter. I picked limitless because it went with your unbound, and you're the leader. Plus, when quirks team up, we have no limits to our power!

You make a good point; I suppose we could use "Quasar" as the game's working title. As for the team: all in favor of Limitless Games?

Seems a bit average for a team name in my view.
